Anthony Hempell
Director, User Experience
Anthony has put his user experience stamp on many high profile projects since starting as an information architect with Vancouver’s Columbus Group years ago. While there, he worked on the TELUS, Tourism Vancouver, UBC and Glaxo Smith Kline accounts, before moving on to Blast Radius.
It was at Blast that Anthony dived into even larger blue chip client accounts, which included his largest project ever – 400 pages of wireframes for DirecTV. As the agency’s usability director, he was also a key player on the Starbucks and VISA accounts.
Anthony has also been a self-employed UX consultant, with high profile clients like Best Buy Canada. As a subcontractor, he also worked on UX projects for the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and TransLink. A self-confessed “transportation nerd,” he still considers his work on TransLink for Vancouver’s Transit Authority as his favourite UX project.
With a BA in Communications from Simon Fraser University and a Masters in Information Systems from the University of Toronto, Anthony has the academic chops to back up his professional credentials.
Digging further into his past uncovers a passion for music and playing bass in various bands in the 80s and 90s, including one that used a severed pig’s head as a prop. Now married and a father of two with a Vancouver house to attend to, his pursuits are somewhat…tamer. That includes managing his own hockey team, working on his wrist shot, breakaway moves and Mohawk pivots, and coaching soccer.
Anthony started working with the UX Guys in 2011 and was named Director, User Experience in April 2012.
