Tara Franz
Senior Research Lead

Tara Franz

Tara is a strategic thinker, analyst and problem solver with a passion for information, insight and action. As the research lead for UX Guys, she lends considerable expertise and experience in the field.

Following the completion of her master’s degree in sociology from York University, Tara put her skills in qualitative research immediately to work. Her first study at the University of Calgary revealed how Alberta immigrants maintain their cultural identity online, and led to a published article in the Journal of New Media Studies.

In the 10 years since that early foray into research, Tara has conducted projects in both social and market research. Her work has touched local community associations and organizations like the City of Calgary Parks and Recreation, as well as large corporations like Rolex, Panasonic, Pampers and Citibank.

Tara has embarked on unique research projects that broke into new ways of looking at research participants, the research field and culture. Her work has focused primarily on the ever-growing web culture where people change their way of being. She believes that researchers need to keep in step by changing their approach to get at the core of this culture.

Recently, Tara served as the Interim Executive Director for the Howe Sound Women’s Centre, where she helped lead the organization to its largest fundraising profit ever. Her skills in leadership, strategic planning and problem solving analysis were obviously a huge part of that success.

Tara is currently living on the West Coast of British Columbia, where she can pursue her interests in hiking, fitness and triathlons – while reserving some down time for a little knitting.
